Wendi Washington-Hunt lives in North Carolina in an increasingly emptying nest.  Left at home are one wonderful husband, one amazing teenage daughter, and one spoiled yellow lab, who appears in every episode of her AIP cooking show on YouTube.  She teaches piano and classical voice locally.

Before Wendi became an autoimmune warrior, she was a martial arts practitioner, and had a career as an opera singer.  Her active lifestyle also included running and weight lifting.  Then everything changed when Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis entered her life.  She began researching ways to take her health into her own hands.

Wendi and I spoke about all of the big changes that Hashimoto’s brought into her life including being unable to relaunch her career as an opera singer because her voice declined and she was not able to sing as she needed to with strength and energy and focus.

One of the important things that Wendi needed to do was to learn to nurture herself, after years of beating up on herself in her head.

Not only does Wendi have Hashimoto’s but her Mother and sister have it as well and autoimmune disease is present in her family with an Aunt who died from the effect of Multiple Sclerosis. What we found through our discussion was that even if others around you have autoimmune disease, until it actually happens to you, you just don’t really understand.

Wendi is the talent behind Wendi’s AIP Kitchen where she has recipes, videos (watch out for guest appearances by her yellow lab) and a bit of fun.

I hope you enjoy this interview as much as I did and if you liked it, please share it around. You can listen in on Apple Podcasts/iTunes, Spotify and Alexa.
