Shortly after discovering that she was pregnant with their first child, Andrea Nakayama’s husband Isamu, was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour and given just six months to live. With their combined dedication, research and determination, that six months became two years.

After his death and with their young son to care for, Andrea was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and had yet another massive learning curve and transition on her hands.

What she learned from her experiences using her core principles of Acceptance, Recognition and Care led to her completely changing her career to become a Functional Nutritionist and going on to become the recipient of the National Association of Nutrition Professionals’ 2015 Impact Award.

As a Functional Nutritionist and educator Andrea Nakayama (CNE, CNC, CHHC) is now leading thousands of clients, students, and practitioners in a global nutrition revolution focused on reclaiming ownership over one’s own health.

Through Functional Nutrition Alliance (formerly Replenish PDX), she helps chronically ill people chart their path to recovery, and in her school for practitioners, Holistic Nutrition Lab, she teaches clinicians the science and art of a functional nutrition practice. Andrea also has her own podcast, “The 15 Minute Matrix”. You can find Andrea interviewing me about the grief of chronic illness there.

Andrea has so much powerful wisdom to share about facing your life with hope, determination and personal transformation. You can listen to the podcast here on the blog or find it her on Apple iTunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/emotional-autoimmunity-podcast/id1444023819?mt=2
